residential space is of impersonality indicating the social relationship between people aswell as its social groups.At each stage of urban development,urban residential space involves different models:the original city belongs tocommingled residential structure;pre-industrial city demonstrates the traditional residential structure of concentric by Gdeon Sioberg,in ad-dition superimposed by two special factors of gild"and"family";in the city of maturity evolved the urban residential structure into that ofBurgess'model;in the time of suburbanization it takes the urban residential space into sprawling configuration and,in the post-industrial earfurther into that ofgalactic"structure.China should avoid American land over-consumption style of suburbanization.Key words:urban residential
