Description of design
1. Outline of the project
China Commercial Fair International Exhibition Center is sited in Qianjiang New Central Business District (CBD), a new urban center in northern bank of Qianjiang River. It eastwards joins Fuchunjiang Road, southwards joins Cao’ejiang Road and northwards joins Xin’anjiang Road. It is opposite to Gland Hangzhou Theater and Music Square and its eastside is the river-facing Zhijiang Road. It enjoys good conditions in level ground, advantageous geographic position, convenient traffics and beautiful environment and is really an idea place for international exhibition center.
The International Exhibition Center will provide a high-rank exhibition place for domestic and international famous products and also a high-level activity place for famous persons in commercial circle. It will play a role of “exhibiting Chinese famous products, carrying forwards excellent commercial culture, collecting domestic and overseas commercial information and improving the famousness of Hangzhou City”.
The International Exhibition Center consisting of the exhibition center and the necessary commercial building and hotel has a total floor area of m2（excluding the basement）and a building height 120m.

3. Design principle
3.1 Principle of integrality：In the design its integral harmonic relationship with the entire city shall be comprehensively considered from the space pattern, traffic network construction boundaries, their combination mode, and the environmental factors and thus it will become an organic integral component of the city.
3.2 Principle of individuality：It shall have unique individuality and architectural features, embody its historical, cultural and regional characteristics and become a highlight both in new Jiangbing urban area and along Qiantangjiang River.
3.3 Principle of practicability: It shall have remarkable space features and external expression way. In this scheme the internal functions and space form shall be decided on basis of keeping economical and practicable. The structure and equipment shall be selected to reach the most economic input and optimal revenue.
3.4 Principle of humanity： It shall be designed under the human-based principle in full consideration of activities and feeling of the people. It shall have strong attraction and cohesion and be full of vigor in both the internal and external environment.
4. Design idea
4.1 Expression of historical culture and regional culture
The historical culture and regional culture is the origin of our design idea. We shall use the simple and clear-cut languages in building materials, the rolling roof, and external wall to abstractly embody the evolution of Zhejiang, Qianjiang tide, water of West Lake, reflect obvious features in historical culture and regional culture, combine the realism and romanticism, and reach an union of architectural expression and structural logic.
4.2 Application of urban design method
We fully analyze the surrounding environments of the block and understand the features and requirements of the existing urban design. We on a large-scale urban space adopt the building boundary combination mode and make space configuration harmonic with urban design. Meanwhile we make constant further improvement to make this exhibition center not only meet the requirements on urban design, but also match the streamlined organization, space organization, urban space, road networks and people activities. A 12m wide traffic gallery is built between the eastside and the west side of the exhibition center, which is opposite to the branch road between block A and B and may be used as an urban traffic extension. It northwards joins the Music Square and is provided with ramps and steps as the activity place for people. In addition, it is opposite to Hangzhou Gland Theater and this theater is not extended along the south-north axis so as to intensify and highlight the axis of the administration center
4.3 Combination with Qiantangjiang scenic spots
Qiantangjiang River is the mother river of Zhejiang Province and well known in the world. In this design scheme this river is paid great attention to. Through the longitudinal traffic gantry it attracts people flow to the river-facing sightseeing platform, embodies
